Apathy

coverA light read, "Apathy and other small victories" by Paul Neilan. Perfect if you just want to read and not to think. As my friend Pascal says it.. it's more of an inflight reading really.

Shane, the main character is a carefree guy, being mostly drunk with a f*ck-it-all attitude throughout the entire book. He manage to get himself in awkward situation and turn it into comedy in which obviously he's very proud to be in.

The part that I like about is the conversation between him and his supposedly girlfriend Gwen. When Gwen is trying to get some explanation of why he seems to be trashing his live away and he just doesn't care. Uncaring cold person. Almost like Albert Camus' Outsider.

I can see why this book would make someone's favourite list. Depends on the philosophy of your life, I think you might find this Shane character either very cool or very pathetic.

The_Gospel_According_to_Jesus_Christ

coverIt took me sometime to finish the nobel prize winner "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ" by Jose Saramago.
Saramago uses biblical characters to woven out a story out of the life of Jesus with 'what could have been', that is not laid out in the bible. It is very interesting to see the character of Jesus slowly emerge, to see how the other characters that surrounds him enters and affects and really think what might be running through their heads; what reasons and motivations that might have compelled them to do or say such things.
The book starts off nicely, a bit too lengthy at about 3/4 way in, but it has superb ending! I love the ending. It is well writen and I would recommended it to believers and non-believers alike.
